AS9100:2016 is the international management system standard for the Aircraft, Space and Defence (AS&D) industry. The standard provides suppliers with a comprehensive quality system for providing safe and reliable products to the aerospace and defence industries. AS 9100 also includes the requirements for civil & military aviation/defence.
The standard contains the actual requirements an organisation must comply with to become AS9100 registered. AS9100 is based upon the ISO 9001 standard for Quality Management Systems. Companies working within the Aerospace and Defense industry that already have ISO 9001 registration can move forward and implement the extra requirements of AS9100 and apply for AS9100 registration as well.
An update to the AS9100 was introduced in September 2016, also known as Revision (rev) D of the standard. Companies have until September 2018 to move to this new standard.
Who uses the AS9100 standard?
Companies that design, develop, and/or produce aviation, space and defence products; and by organizations providing post-delivery support, including the provision of maintenance, spare parts, or materials, for their own products.
AS9100 is not an ISO standard (International Standards Organisation), it is written and managed by the International Aerospace Quality Group (IAQG).
